After three takes… I finally got a TOPIK Level 4 Certificate! The TOPIK results came out yesterday and I was really shocked when I saw the results! I was expecting to get another Level 3 but I guess I have already mastered the techniques of the old TOPIK exam that’s why I got a higher score this time. (I also admit that the exam is quite easier compared to the 30th and 32nd kk).
I didn’t have much time to prepare for the 34th TOPIK when I took it. I have just finished my school and scholarship requirements during the TOPIK season here in the Philippines. I was also very busy because of visa application preparations that’s why I wasn’t able to open even a single Korean language book to prepare for the test. The first time I opened my TOPIK book was while waiting for the earlier batch of test takers to finish the Beginner exam! I just trusted my rusty skills and told myself that no matter what the results are, I will continue to strive to get Level 4!
During the exam, the hardest part for me was the reading part. After the exam, me, Ate Dia(mykoreancorner) and our other friends were discussing the answers to the exam. My answers to the easy and difficult Reading questions were all wrong so I lost hope that I could get a high score. For the writing part, the essay question was easy as well as the write the correct grammar part. I also had difficulties with the vocabulary and grammar part because I didn’t know the idiomatic expressions and some conjunctions. The easiest for me was the listening part even though my brain lagged for several times during the test.
Well, my score sheet shows that my highest score is Listening with 90 points and my lowest is the grammar and vocabulary part with 75 points! I was shocked that my lowest was the vocab part and my writing score is even higher! Maybe I was just lucky in some parts of the writing exam but honestly, my Korean writing sucks especially when writing long essays. ㅜㅠ
I am really happy with the results of the TOPIK but I am not yet satisfied with my current Korean skills. I still have a lot of things to share about my recent trip to Korea and how I was able to use my rusty Korean speaking skills. My writing still sucks because my mind is always in chaos whenever I write something in Korean. My vocabulary bank is also not updated because I became so lazy to study new words.
I think this 34th TOPIK results is a wake up call for me. I should really start studying HARD or even HARDER again to prove that I am worthy of carrying a Level 4 Korean language proficiency certificate. I remember what my sensei said: “Your language proficiency certificate is nothing if you cannot apply your skills in real life. I am not amazed even if someone carries any N from the N-series(referring to JLPT N-series) if he/she cannot carry even a simple conversation.” Those words really struck me during that time. I have TOPIK certificates but I think they will be useless if I will not improve in applying it in conversations or writing. Whew. This new TOPIK level gives me another responsibility that I should take care of. Whew. I know I can do this! We can do this Korean language learners! Let us now prepare for the new TOPIK too! Off to Korean language proficiency!!!!!! \O/////
